BisB Wins ‘Best ESG Bank Bahrain 2026’ at World Business Outlook Awards
04-November-2026
Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB), the leading provider of innovative Islamic financial solutions for simplifying money matters in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has been named ‘Best ESG Bank Bahrain 2026’ by World Business Outlook magazine.
The award acknowledges how BisB has integrated environmental and social considerations into its financing decisions and banking products, underpinned by a Board-approved sustainability policy and a governance framework that establishes clear responsibilities for oversight, implementation and performance disclosure. The Bank’s sustainable financing priorities include facilitating funding for clean energy projects and affordable housing, alongside supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Commenting on the achievement, Ms. Fatema AlAlawi, Chief Executive Officer of BisB, stated, “We are proud to receive this recognition, which reflects a commitment that has guided BisB since its establishment: harnessing the principles of Islamic banking to advance economic development and serve the community. We recognise that our responsibility extends beyond the immediate outcomes of our banking activities to the lasting impact of the decisions we make. Guided by this belief, we continue to develop financing solutions that enable Bahraini businesses to grow, while investing in national talent to strengthen its contribution to innovation and economic diversification. I am equally proud of our colleagues, whose dedication across the Bank and through community initiatives plays an instrumental role in translating these ambitions into meaningful action.”
As part of its commitment to developing national capabilities, BisB has continued to help nurture emerging literary talent through its ‘We Write in Arabic’ initiative, advanced the professional development of Bahraini women through the ‘On Her Path’ programme, and provided younger generations with opportunities to develop their skills through its summer camp. The Bank also hosted the ‘BisB Next-Gen Islamic Investment Innovation Product Hackathon’, empowering university students to develop innovative Sharia’a compliant investment product concepts. Meanwhile, its ‘Sustaining the Promising Sector’ programme has provided targeted support to Bahraini entrepreneurs and SMEs.
On the environmental front, BisB continues to explore opportunities to reduce emissions from its operations and improve energy efficiency, contributing to the transition towards a low-carbon economy. The Bank has also signed a strategic partnership with the ‘Estidama’ Centre, further extending its involvement in environmental awareness and sustainability efforts.
BisB’s commitment to community engagement is further demonstrated through its ‘Jood’ Volunteer Team, which brings together Bank employees to participate in social and environmental projects throughout the year. These activities include supporting people with disabilities and children affected by cancer, renovating homes for families in need, and participating in tree-planting campaigns.
