BISB Prepaid Card Terms and Conditions

Definitions

  • Bank: Bahrain Islamic Bank B.S.C.
  • Card: the BisB Prepaid Card issued by the Bank to a Cardholder.
  • Cardholder: the person that the Bank issues the Card in His / Her name.
  • Card Account: the account opened with the Bank in the name of the Cardholder in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
  • Available Funds: the net debit amount available in the Card Account.
    Card Transaction: the purchase of goods and services including but not limited to, Point of Sale (P.O.S.) transactions, ATM withdrawals, online and telephone transactions.
  • Validity Period: the period for which the Card is valid as determined by the Bank.
  • PIN: the Personal identification Number issued by the Bank for the Card.
  • eBanking: the Bank’s electronic services provided at ebisb.com or BisB Mobile
  • These Terms and Conditions supplement the General Terms and Conditions of Account and Credit Cards Terms and Conditions which govern your Card. If there is any inconsistency between the provisions of these Terms and Conditions  and the provisions of the General Terms and Conditions of Accounts and Credit Cards Terms and Conditions, the provisions of these  Terms and Conditions will take precedence over any other terms between us and you in relation to your Card.

Use of the Card

  • Only the designated Cardholder, whose name appears on the face of the Card, and the authorized persons, may use the Card.
  • The Cardholder agrees to:
    • Sign on the space provided at the back of the Card immediately upon receipt.
    • Either keep the PIN in a secret place away from the Card and take all the necessary precautions to prevent others from knowing it, or destroy the PIN notification after memorizing the PIN.
    • Use the Card within the available funds of the Card Account, as per the daily spend limit declared by the Bank.
    • Refrain from disclosing the Card Number to any unauthorized person, any unauthorized website or any other unauthorized channel that may expose the Card Account for abuse and/or fraudulent transactions and acknowledge his/her full liability to any misuse of the card that may result from violating the undertaking herein.
    • Avoid using the Card for any illegal transactions as defined by:
      • Payment provider regulations.
      • International authorities.
      • Laws of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
      • Islamic  Sharia’a standards as  issued by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and as interpreted by the Bank’s Sharia’a Board
    • Avoid using the Card after the expiry date stated on the Card notified by the Bank or after any notification to the Cardholder of its cancellation or withdrawal by the Bank or its representatives.
    • The card system may require the approval of the card user's guardian to verify suitability for use.

Safeguarding the Card Number

  • The Cardholder must exercise all possible care to ensure the safety of the Card and the PIN code from disclosure to any unauthorized person. The Cardholder must not disclose the Card Number to any third party except in connection with a Card Transaction or when reporting the actual loss or theft of the Card to the Bank’s representatives or /and a government entity.
  • If the Card is lost or stolen or damaged or if there is a reason to suspect that the PIN has become known to any unauthorized person, the Cardholder shall immediately notify the Bank’s Card Centre, any branch of the Bank or by calling 17515999 (24 Hours), or by mail to be sent to P.O.box 5240, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The Bank’s liability to the transactions undertaken on the Card shall be effective as of the date of the Customer’s notification of the Card’s loss, damage or theft, as clarified above 

Card Account

  • The Bank will open and maintain a Card Account for the Cardholder which enables him/her to deposit the amounts to be used. Any loss incurred by the Bank arising from the use of the Card will also be charged to this account.
  • The Bank will directly charge to such Card Account the amounts of all purchases of goods and services or cash withdrawals by use of the Card where any merchant in the course of a Card Transaction seeks an authorization from the Bank, the amount of such Card Transaction will reduce the amount of the Available Funds in the Card Account.
  • The amount of any Card Transaction in a currency other than BHD will be converted into the Card Currency at the prevailing rates of exchange (as specified by the Bank and the Visa lnternational) on the date when such amounts are charged to the Card Account.
  • The Bank reserves the right to charge a mark up on the currency exchange, as specified by the Bank.
  • If the merchant refunds the Bank the value of the service or merchandise provided to the Cardholder, the Bank shall credit such value to the Card Account upon receipt thereof.
  • The Cardholder may obtain a detailed statement of account showing the transactions that took place with the Card by logging to the Bank’s eBanking Portal at www.ebisb.com or BisB Mobile
  • The statement of account shall be considered as accepted by the Cardholder if he/she does not object thereto within the specified duration of 15 days from the date of the statement.
  • The Customer acknowledges that some differences may arise between the amounts in the bills and the amounts in the Bank statement due to rounding the amount figure from three to two decimals or any other reasons related to

Fees and Charges

  • The Card will be subject to the following fees and charges, where applicable:
    • Card issuing fees: once at the opening of the Card Account and issuing the Card.
    • Debit balance retrieval charges through any account transfer or the issuance of a manager cheque.
    • Card replacement fees
    • PIN replacement fees
    • Statement copy fees
    • Annual Fees on BisB Arcade
  • The Bank’s approved Fees and Charges are available at the Bank’s branches and on the website.
  • The Bank reserves the right to determine, add, waive or vary the Fees and Charges as per its sole discretion and notify the Cardholder by any means the Bank finds sufficient.

Suspension or Cancellation of the Card

  • The Card remains the property of the Bank at all times. On request, all and any Card issued for use on the Card Account must be returned immediately to the Bank.
  • The Bank may at any time suspend or cancel the right of the Cardholder to use the Card that is issued to him/her on temporary or permanent basis without any notice, if he/she fails to satisfy his/her obligations under these Terms and Conditions or any attachments thereto or under any other agreements or amendments, and/or if he/she defaults in the payment of the amounts as they fall due. Accordingly, the Card Account shall be automatically terminated and the Cardholder shall hand over the Card to the Bank and refrain absolutely and immediately from using the Card.
  • The bank may at restrict the use of the card in purchasing some goods and services, as determined by the bank.
  • Such cancellation shall not absolve the Cardholder from his/her liabilities and obligations towards the Bank until the date of cancellation.

Termination

The Cardholder may terminate the Card Account by a written notice to the Bank but such termination shall only be in effect upon return of the Card to the Bank and the full settlement of all the liabilities of the Cardholder to the Bank. Until such termination, the Bank may reissue Cards where applicable for use in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. Prior to leaving the Kingdom of Bahrain permanently, the Cardholder shall return to the Bank the Card issued by the Bank to the Cardholder.

General Provisions

  • The Bank will not be liable if the Cardholder was not able to use the Card due to the failure of (directly or indirectly) any machine, data processing system, transmission link, industrial dispute or anything beyond the Bank's control.
  • The Cardholder shall immediately notify the Bank of any change of his/her name, contact number and address.
  • In case any merchant refuses to accept the Card, the Bank shall not be responsible for such refusal in any means whatsoever.
  • The Bank shall not be liable in any manner whatsoever for any difference that may arise between any merchant and the Cardholder concerning a Card Transaction that is the subject of payment.
  • The Cardholder may request the complaint guideline from any of the Bank’s offices in the event of any unsatisfactory services.
  • The Cardholder will be liable for all card transactions, cash advance and charges to the card by others if he/she shares the card’s details including the PIN with others.
  • The Cardholder accepts full liability for all losses incurred and for all debits to his or her Card Account in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. Any other facilities or benefits made available to Cardholders as such as and not forming part of these Terms and Conditions may be withdrawn at any time without notice by the Bank.
  • The Cardholder acknowledges that from time to time the Bank uses services of third parties (service providers) for processing certain transactions which entails transmitting certain customer’s information. For this purpose, the applicant hereby irrevocably and unconditionally authorizes and provides his/her full consent to the Bank to transmit his/her information to such service providers.”
  • The Bank has the right to deduct any amounts from the Cardholder’s accounts to cover VAT, and any other taxes or levies that may be imposed by the competent authorities.
  • The Bank reserves the right to cancel or amend these Terms and Conditions at any time as per the Bank’s sole discretion by giving a minimum of 30 days’ notice. Any amendments to the terms and conditions will be notified to the customer as deemed appropriate by the Bank in line with the CBB guidelines.
  • Continuation of using the Card by the Cardholder upon receiving notification of amending these Terms and Conditions shall be construed as an acceptance of these amendments.

Applicable Law

  • These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by, and construed   in accordance with, the applicable laws of the Kingdom of Bahrain and  in accordance with the Sharia’a standards issued by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) , if a conflict arises between the applicable laws and the Sharia’ Principles, the latter shall prevail.
  • In the case of either a claim by the Bank against the Cardholder or a dispute between the Bank and the Cardholder, the Cardholder agrees to irrevocably submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • The interpretation, implementation and adjudication of any dispute that may arise in relation to these Terms and Conditions shall be subject to the Sharia’a standards issued by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and as interpreted by the Bank’s Sharia’a Board . The parties further agree that the Central Sharia Board of the Central Bank of Bahrain will be the authorized expert to resolve any dispute in relation to these terms and Conditions or to interpret these Terms and Conditions, if it has been determined to refer the dispute to the competent court.
  • In the case of conflict between the English and Arabic versions of these terms and conditions, the latter shall prevail.

  • The Cardholder will be eligible to BisB Arcade benefits only after paying the annual fee. For Benefits and Benefit redemption details, please refer to the following link:

  • Annual fee is applicable on this card as per the approved Fees and Charges of the Bank
  • Rest of the charges will be as per existing Prepaid Card fees
