Ahead of the Winners’ Announcement at the Fourth Islamic Banking Transactions Awareness Forum

Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB), in partnership with INJAZ Bahrain, has launched the “BisB Next-Gen Islamic Investment Innovation Product Hackathon”, aimed at empowering university students to develop innovative Sharia-compliant investment product ideas and engage them in creating solutions that address customers’ needs and evolving expectations.

The hackathon forms part of the strategic partnership between the two organisations, reflecting their shared commitment to bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, while providing young people with opportunities to gain experience in investment, financing, and wealth management. The winners will be announced during BisB’s Fourth Islamic Banking Transactions Awareness Forum, scheduled to take place on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

Commenting on the initiative, Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairperson of INJAZ Bahrain, said: “We are proud of our partnership with Bahrain Islamic Bank, which provides young people with practical opportunities to discover and develop their capabilities. This hackathon offers students an experience that combines creative thinking, teamwork, and the application of knowledge to real-world challenges in the banking sector. It will help strengthen their confidence in their ideas, enhance their ability to develop practical solutions, and contribute to preparing them for the job market.”

For her part, Ms. Fatema AlAlawi, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Islamic Bank, said: “We believe that advancing Islamic banking begins with investing in knowledge and creating opportunities for young people to contribute their ideas to shaping its future. Through this hackathon, in partnership with INJAZ Bahrain, we are providing university students with an opportunity to apply what they have learned to develop innovative investment products that combine Sharia compliance with practical value for customers. By linking this initiative to our Fourth Islamic Banking Transactions Awareness Forum, we aim to move beyond raising awareness of Islamic banking concepts towards actively contributing to the development of its solutions, while supporting promising talent through cash prizes and internship opportunities at the Bank.”

The hackathon challenges participants to develop an innovative Islamic investment product that is simple, user-friendly, and delivers added value to a specific segment of the Bank’s customers. Participants are required to assess the investment needs of their target segment and propose a solution that complies with Islamic Sharia principles and incorporates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. The proposed solutions must also demonstrate commercial and technical feasibility while meeting the legal, marketing, and operational requirements necessary for implementation.
